OUR FUNDING
In 2009/10 the Foundation spent or committed almost £18.5m implementing its mission. Of this £14m was an exceptional grant for the funding of the Said Business School's Phase II building. Leaving this aside, the Foundation's expenditure broke down as follows.
The Foundation is funded through an endowment from its Benefactor, Mr Wafic Rida Said as well as through further donations such as for the Phase II building. The endowment is made up of investments in equities, bonds, hedge funds and property and stood at the end of the 2009/10 year at over £50m.
The endowment
is managed by professional portfolio managers. They are tasked with
providing an income to the Foundation to fund its activities while
preserving the real value of the endowment. In this way the Trustees
seek to ensure that the Foundation's activities will continue at
current (or higher) levels of funding in perpetuity. This freedom
from the constraints of fundraising allows the Foundation to take
a long term approach to its work and to plan for the future.
