FURTHER EDUCATION PROGRAMME
Alumni
The Foundation has been supporting students from the Middle East
since 1984. Over the years more than 500 young people have benefited
from Saïd Foundation scholarships including archaeologists, environmentalists,
geneticists, linguists, musicians, nurses, water engineers and university
professors. All the Foundation asks of its scholars is that they
apply the skills and knowledge they have gained in one of the Foundation's
target countries on completion of their course.
Here are a few examples of what some of our former scholars are doing now:
 |
Mona Abdeljawad
Jordanian, MSt International Human Rights Law, University
of Oxford, 2006-7
Prior to being awarded a Foundation scholarship in 2005, Mona Abdeljawad
worked for Save the Children US as a Credit Officer on a "Group
Guaranteed Lending and Saving Programme" and established
the Jordan branch of the Landmine Survivors Network (LSN).
Mona's work with LSN introduced her to the
field of international law and she played an active part in
the International Campaign to Ban Landmines and was part of
the international team which drafted the Convention on the
Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
On completion of her MSt in International Human Rights Law
at the University of Oxford, she returned to Jordan and now
works as the Assistant Secretary General of the Higher Council
for the Affairs of Persons with Disabilities. She is now considered
an expert on International Disability Law and addresses the
topic at major conferences and events.
