FURTHER EDUCATION PROGRAMME

Alumni

The Foundation has been supporting students from the Middle East since 1984. Over the years more than 500 young people have benefited from Saïd Foundation scholarships including archaeologists, environmentalists, geneticists, linguists, musicians, nurses, water engineers and university professors. All the Foundation asks of its scholars is that they apply the skills and knowledge they have gained in one of the Foundation's target countries on completion of their course.

Here are a few examples of what some of our former scholars are doing now:

Maha Shuayb

Maha Shuayb

Lebanese, PhD Education, University of Cambridge, 2000/04

She has conducted a number of research projects including Young People's Political, Social and Civic Attitudes in Faith and Secular Schools in Lebanon and School Effectiveness in UNRWA's Secondary Schools in the Palestinian Refugee Camps in Lebanon. She is currently directing an action research project which pilots an alternative model to the subject-based approach adopted by most schools in Lebanon. The model, which offers a multi-dimensional approach to education for social cohesion, is being applied in four public and private schools in Lebanon and in collaboration with the Ministry of Education. Maha is currently a fellow of the Centre for Lebanese Studies.
